Description
Technical Overview & Catalog Specifications
This apparatus allows students and researchers to visually map a liquid’s trajectory and experimentally determine critical hydraulic parameters like the Coefficient of Discharge (Cdcap C sub d), Coefficient of Velocity (Cvcap C sub v), and Coefficient of Contraction (Cccap C sub c).
Constant Head Tank: A transparent cylindrical acrylic/methacrylate chamber equipped with an overflow pipe. This structure ensures a steady, unvarying water pressure (head) during continuous flow experimentation.
Jet Trajectory Panel: A vertical backboard hosting adjustable vertical needles or probes. By matching the points of the needles directly to the path of the emerging water stream, users can record precise X-Y coordinates to map the jet’s parabolic curve.
Interchangeable Attachments: The bottom or side outlet of the tank accepts different types of sharp-edged orifices and varied mouthpiece designs (convergent, divergent, short-tube).
Core Experiments & Learning Objectives
Flow Profiling: Mapping the exact coordinates (x, y) of the free water jet to visually verify theoretical fluid trajectories.
Hydraulic Coefficient Verification: Calculating Cdcap C sub d, Cvcap C sub v, and Cccap C sub c
by comparing the actual volumetric flow rate measured over time against theoretical calculations based on Bernoulli’s theorem.
Vena Contracta Evaluation: Observing the physical narrowing of the fluid stream immediately after it exits the orifice opening.
